In our second meeting we will introduce many sustainable technologies and investigate what makes them sustainable and how they are or can be integrated both into our everyday lives and professional practice.

Bring in an example of a sustainable technology to share.

In Class

We will start the class by sharing examples of sustainable technologies we have found in the news media and elsewhere. We will discuss each briefly and then look at a few in-depth case studies (see below) that Leslie and Ian will provide. We will have a short break and reconvene for an hour discussion with 2 or 3 guest speakers working to develop new sustainable technologies, or have had a hand in bring in existing sustainable solutions to the market.

Notes

Think outside the box when you're looking for sustainable technologies to bring in. Really think about what sustainability is and what technologies exist that exemplify that definition. Think about Cradle to Cradle and break down the examples you're looking at to really get to their core benefit. It is just as valid to bring in an example of a technology that is labeled sustainable, but more so has this label applied for marketing than for any actual sustainable benefit.

Case Studies

These are two of each of our favorite technologies. We will discuss these more in-depth in class during our second meeting. Do not take these case studies as technologies that are off limits, but if you do chose to bring in an article or other example of one of the technologies here, please have the example you bring in for homework be of a specific application of the technology and be prepared to speak more in-depth on that application than the technology itself.
